Recap: South Delta Bulldogs vs. Simmons Blue Devils
The South Delta Bulldogs came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 59-41 victory over Simmons. This was payback for South Delta, who suffered a 53-34 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Despite the loss, Simmons still got an impressive performance from Akiah Prince, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Prince scored a full 51.2% of Simmons' points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
South Delta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Simmons, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Delta will face off against Leland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 310th, while South Delta is ranked 143rd). As for Simmons, they will head out on the road to face off against West Bolivar at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Bolivar comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
