Basketball Recap: Forest Comes Up Short

Forest has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a blow against the Wildwood Wildcats on Friday, falling 73-31. While losing is never fun, Forest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Wildwood is ranked 11th).

Forest lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ja'Niyah McCoy, who posted 11 points. McCoy is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jiyah Hamilton, who earned six points and three steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wildwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayla Lyde, who went 7 of 10 on her way to 18 points and eight boards. Trinidy Harris was another key player, going 6 for 13 en route to 18 points.

Forest's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4. As for Wildwood, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.

Forest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-51 loss against Lake Mary on the 11th. As for Wildwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 1-0 win against Jones on the 15th.
