Baseball Game Preview: Lincoln County Patriots vs. Jackson County Generals

The Lincoln County Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Jackson County Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln County will be strutting in after a victory while Jackson County will be coming in after a loss.

Lincoln County came out on top against Garrard County on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Patriots took their matchup against the Golden Lions 7-4.

Brennin Hazlett and Tucker Foster were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Hazlett didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Foster pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Hazlett went 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Foster went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. Foster has become a key player for Lincoln County: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-10 otherwise.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Hart, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Another was Grady Foster, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Jackson County didn't have quite enough to beat South Laurel on Thursday and fell 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Generals in their meetings with the Cardinals: they've now lost three in a row.

Lincoln County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Jackson County, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.

Lincoln County suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Jackson County when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
