Softball Recap: Coolidge Wins Going Away Against Florence

Coolidge got themselves on the board against Florence on Friday, but Florence never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Gophers. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Autumn Hoover was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubriana Cavazos, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Genesis Payne, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Coolidge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.

Coolidge's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Florence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Coming up, Coolidge will take on Seton Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Florence, they will square off against ALA - West Foothills at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Florence will need to watch out since ALA - West Foothills has now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
