Baseball Game Preview: Cherryvale Chargers vs. Columbus Titans

Cherryvale hasn't had much luck against Columbus recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Titans at 4:30 p.m. Cherryvale has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cherryvale is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Southeast. On the bright side, the ten- run performance marked the Chargers' highest-scoring game to date.

Ethan Umbarger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Carsen Ellis also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Columbus didn't have quite enough to beat Baxter Springs on Monday and fell 2-1. The Titans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cherryvale's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Columbus, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Cherryvale was able to grind out a solid win over Columbus when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
