Basketball Recap: Hondo Valley Eagles vs. Corona/Vaughn Cardinals
After flying high against Carrizozo last Tuesday, Hondo Valley came back down to earth. The Hondo Valley Eagles lost to the Corona/Vaughn Cardinals at home by a 48-30 margin on Thursday. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Corona/Vaughn found their leader in sophomore Harper Dunn, who dropped a triple-double on 18 points, ten rebounds, and ten blocks. Dunn is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 27 games she's played dating back to last season. Kassidy Lightfoot was another key player, going 8 of 18 on her way to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and four blocks.
Hondo Valley's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Corona/Vaughn, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.
Looking ahead, Hondo Valley will take on Alamo Navajo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Corona/Vaughn, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-19 win against Coronado on the 8th.
