Basketball Recap: Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee and Cannon squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Rabun Gap-Nacoochee had to settle for second. They took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cannon Cougars. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Blanca Martinez, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Martinez is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last 17 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emmie Moore, who went 5-for-9 en route to 13 points.

Cannon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooke Busby, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 18 points and five rebounds. Madison Drayton was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven boards.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee's loss dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Cannon, they pushed their record up to 25-7 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cannon, they will face off against Wesleyan Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Wesleyan Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 games.
