Flag Football Recap: Gilbert Christian Takes Down Highland Prep in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Gilbert Christian walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Highland Prep Honey Badgers on Wednesday, sneaking past 3-0.

Gilbert Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mackenzie Henderson and Brielle Sager.

Despite the loss, Highland Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madison Lawrence rushed for 126 yards on only 15 carries.

Gilbert Christian pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.5 points on average over those games. As for Highland Prep, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Gilbert Christian will be playing at home against Benjamin Franklin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers' defense has only allowed 8.1 points per game this season, so the Knights' offense will have their work cut out for them. Highland Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
