Basketball Recap: Oakville Acorns vs. Taholah Chitwhins
The Oakville Acorns managed to keep up with the Taholah Chitwhins until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Oakville was the victim of a tough 59-36 loss at the hands of the Chitwhins. Oakville lost against the Chitwhins in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 80-11 score last time.
Several Acorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ui Siufanua, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Siufanua is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Forsythe, who scored eight points along with 18 rebounds.
Oakville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Taholah, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakville will take on the Terriers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Washington School for the Deaf's defense has only allowed 26.2 points per game this season, so the Acorns' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Taholah, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Red Devils at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Neah Bay is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
