Basketball Recap: Madison County's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

It was a good run, but Madison County unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Chiles Timberwolves by a score of 60-57. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cowboys of the 56-55 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Madison County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Labron Lee, who posted 16 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jhy Smith, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chiles to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isaiah Bundrage, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Bundrage a new career-high in boards. Christian Craig was another key player, going 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Madison County's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 17-4. As for Chiles, their record is now 12-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madison County will challenge Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season. As for Chiles, they will face off against Community Leadership Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chiles also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 60.2 points per game.
