Basketball Game Preview: Costa Mesa Mustangs vs. Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies

Costa Mesa is 2-7 against Godinez Fundamental since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Costa Mesa Mustangs will head out to take on the Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies at 6:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Costa Mesa's tournament run continued when they took on Elsinore on Monday. Costa Mesa took a 78-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of Elsinore. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (65), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Godinez Fundamental). They blew past Magnolia 75-30 on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Grizzlies as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Godinez Fundamental's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-11. As for Costa Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.

Costa Mesa couldn't quite finish off Godinez Fundamental when the teams last played back in November of 2019 and fell 51-49. Thankfully for Costa Mesa, Joseph Lopez (who went 10 of 17 on his way to 28 points along with five boards and three steals) won't be suiting up this time.
