Westlake strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They breezed past the Venice Gondoliers to the tune of 41-6. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Gondoliers are ranked 463rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westlake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Demanie Bell, who picked up 92 receiving yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 123 yards and one score on only nine carries. Ford Green was another key player, having thrown for 301 yards and five touchdowns.

Westlake's run defense was locked in: Venice could only muster 2.7 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Owen Rockabrand stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (4.0 for loss). Westlake didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.6.

Westlake's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Venice, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Westlake and Venice will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Warriors see the field they'll take on Rio Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Venice, their break will end when they face University at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
