Softball Recap: Union County Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Union County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Tates Creek Commodores with a sharp 14-2 win. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.

Karley Byrd looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Miley Mendoza, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Audrey Staley was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Union County's victory bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Tates Creek, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-18.

Coming up, Union County will host Henderson County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Colonels will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Braves surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tates Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Paul Laurence Dunbar at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
