Baseball Recap: Fort Calhoun Triumphs

While Fort Calhoun put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Falls City. The Pioneers came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 3-0. That's more bragging rights for the Pioneers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kenny Wellwood made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Christensen, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Fort Calhoun always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Falls City only posted an OBP of .231.

Fort Calhoun's win bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Falls City, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-16.

Fort Calhoun does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Falls City, they will venture away from home to face off against Central City/Centura at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Tigers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
