Softball Recap: Southside Makes It Four in a Row at Home

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Southside and Glencoe, and Southside kept the tradition alive. The Southside Panthers put the hurt on the Glencoe Yellowjackets with a sharp 13-1 win on Wednesday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Paxton Huddleston tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Lauren Mckee was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Ilana Stewart also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Southside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Southside's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.2 runs. As for Glencoe, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.

Southside will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on St. Clair County at 4:30 p.m. on March 31st. As for Glencoe, they will face off against Westbrook Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Glencoe has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
