Volleyball Recap: Gary West Side Comes Up Short

Gary West Side extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-2. They came up short against the Wheeler Bearcats, falling 3-0. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bearcats from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

As for Wheeler, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. That looming 3-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Julia Newsome had an outrageously good game as she had nine aces and three digs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.8 aces per game. Another player making a difference was Laylah McNamara, who had five digs and four aces.

Coming up, Gary West Side will be playing in front of their home fans against East Chicago Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wheeler, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Lake Station Edison on the 28th.
