Softball Preview: Monarch Coyotes vs. Fairview Knights
Monarch has gone 8-1 against Fairview recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Monarch Coyotes will take on the Fairview Knights at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Monarch will head into Tuesday's game ready to turn things around: they lost a close one when they played on Saturday but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They lost 25-15 to Mead. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Monarch got a massive performance out of Kate Church, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ithaca Kremer, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Fairview came up short against Prairie View on Wednesday, falling 21-11.
Julia Savage was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in the last five games she's played. Payton Cowin also deserves some recognition as she stolen her first stolen base of the season.
Monarch now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Fairview, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Fairview's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Monarch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Fairview, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2. Will Monarch keep running through batters, or will Fairview buck the trend?
Monarch skirted past Fairview 9-8 in their previous meeting back in October of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monarch since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
