Basketball Recap: Ava Owens' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greenville over J.L. Mann

After flying high against Mauldin last Tuesday, Greenville came back down to earth. The Greenville Red Raiders took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the J.L. Mann Patriots on Friday. The Red Raiders haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Several Red Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Owens, who posted nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Owens has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last seven times she's played. Kailee Williams was another key player, putting up eight points.

Imari Richardson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 15 boards for J.L. Mann. Another player making a difference was Olivia McKinney, who scored nine points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Greenville's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for J.L. Mann, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Looking ahead, Greenville will take on T.L. Hanna at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for J.L. Mann, they will challenge Mauldin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
