Baseball Game Preview: Lenape Indians vs. Delsea Crusaders

The Lenape Indians are taking a road trip to square off against the Delsea Crusaders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Delsea took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Lenape, who comes in off a win.

Lenape barely beat Seneca the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Golden Eagles on Thursday. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Delsea suffered their closest loss since May 16, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Triton by a score of 3-1.

Otley Makosky was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Delsea saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Grippo, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Toby Winfield also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Delsea has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-3 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Lenape, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.

Lenape took their victory against Delsea in their previous matchup back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
