Baseball Recap: Cross Plains Takes a Loss

Cross Plains had taken Eula down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Buffaloes took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-13 back in March.

Bryson Barron was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Cross Plains got a good showing from Brandan Jones, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits.

Back at the plate, Gray Albrecht made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kutter Reed, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Cross Plains has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Eula, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-7.

While Cross Plains had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
