Softball Recap: Coventry Wins Going Away Against Cumberland

Coventry barely beat Cumberland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Oakers blew past the Clippers 13-2 on Tuesday. With that win, the Oakers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Mary Mcgovern made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Mcgovern was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Lapham, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Spadoni, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Coventry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Coventry and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Cumberland, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Coventry will square off against rival St. Mary Academy-Bay View at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Cumberland is set to challenge their familiar foe La Salle Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
