Basketball Preview: Floresville Tigers vs. Devine Warhorses
The Floresville Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Devine Warhorses at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Floresville sitting on four straight victories and the Warhorses on eight.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 15 more assists than your opponent, a fact Floresville proved on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 65-46 victory over Carrizo Springs. Floresville pushed the score to 50-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wildcats cut but never quite recovered from.
Floresville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordin Johns out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Johns hasn't dropped below three steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Alissa Hilario, who scored 11 points along with five assists and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Devine gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They breezed by Pearsall on the road to the tune of 69-18. Given Devine's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the Mavericks are ranked 1348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Floresville's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-12. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Devine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 27-8 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Floresville, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 44-30 loss to the Warhorses when the teams last played back in January. Can Floresville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
