Softball Recap: Oak Park Comes Up Short

Oak Park had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 9-11 to make it five. They fell just short of the Royal Highlanders by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-2 back in March.

Erika Samuels spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Claire Broberg made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

As for Royal, their record now sits at 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Oak Park since March 17, 2022.

On Royal's side, they also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Julianna Galbraith gave up only one earned run on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Marilyn Augusta was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. Lidija Faubert was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Oak Park will challenge Simi Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Royal, they will face off against Huntington Beach at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
