Basketball Recap: Estancia Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Brook Eister and Lucia Chavez

If Estancia was feeling good fresh off their 52-29 takedown of Raton last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Estancia Bears lost 47-25 to the Tucumcari Rattlers on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rattlers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 44-30 loss back in February.

Despite the defeat, Estancia had strong showings from Lucia Chavez, who posted seven points and four steals, and Brook Eister, who had seven points and five rebounds. Chavez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Caylee Benavidez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 16 points and ten boards for Tucumcari. July Lafferty was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Estancia's loss dropped their record down to 15-13. As for Tucumcari, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Estancia will square off against Tatum at 6:00 p.m. on March 7th. Tatum will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Estancia surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tucumcari, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-50 defeat against Pecos on the 28th.
