Football Recap: Waverly Starts Season with Victory at Home

Waverly gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 14-13 win over the Troy Trojans. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wolverines' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 17th in New York, while the Trojans are ranked 70th in Pennsylvania).

Waverly got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cooper Robinson out in front who rushed for 95 yards on only nine carries. Those 95 rushing yards gave Robinson a new career-high.

Although Troy took the loss, they still got scores from Brendan Gilliland and Mason Smith.

Troy's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

After each having a week off, Waverly and Windsor Central will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Troy, they have already played their next game, a 42-13 win against South Williamsport on the 5th.
