Softball Game Preview: Matawan Regional Huskies vs. Raritan Rockets

The Matawan Regional Huskies will face off against the Raritan Rockets at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Matawan Regional 2.5, Raritan 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Last Monday, Matawan Regional beat Monmouth Regional 7-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.

Emma Kriegstein made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Kriegstein was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elyssa Jamandron, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie DeChristopher, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Matawan Regional lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Raritan strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Shore Regional a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Brie Brosonski and Julia DelMasto did most of the damage at the plate: Brosonski went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple and two RBI, while DelMasto scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Holly Bellofatto was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Raritan's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Matawan Regional, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
