The Regis Jesuit Raiders will take on the Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans in a tournament on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Regis Jesuit 2.5, Wesleyan Christian Academy 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Regis Jesuit is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Mullen, who was ranked eighth at the time (Regis Jesuit was ranked seventh). The Raiders took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs on Wednesday.
Regis Jesuit got a good showing from Ryan Neumann, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Nick Wiley was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chase Massey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Wesleyan Christian Academy came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 3-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Sam Cozart's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Wesleyan Christian Academy is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Thompson Holloway, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Cole Bowman was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.
Wesleyan Christian Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Regis Jesuit, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster.
