The Freeport Bulldogs are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season. they will face off against the Fort Walton Beach Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, it was close, but Freeport sidestepped Lighthouse Private Christian Academy for a 5-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Caleb Hoogewerf tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Darrow, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Carson Vogler was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, everything went Fort Walton Beach's way against Pine Forest on Thursday as Fort Walton Beach made off with a 12-3 win. The Vikings have beaten the Eagles the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Trevor Camden made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Camden was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Luke Henderson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Mike VanGilder, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Fort Walton Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pine Forest only hit four hits.
The victory got Fort Walton Beach back to even at 1-1. As for Freeport, their record now sits at 2-0.
