Basketball Recap: Oxbridge Academy Takes a Loss

Oxbridge Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 51-43 to the Atlantic Eagles. The ThunderWolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.

Despite the defeat, Oxbridge Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Leilani Benzing posted 24 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ila Trueblood, who earned eight points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Oxbridge Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Atlantic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooke Jacob, who had 13 points. Another player making a difference was Meagan Fitzpatrick, who scored 12 points.

Oxbridge Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Atlantic, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-11.

Oxbridge Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 42-28 defeat against Calvary Christian Academy on the 30th. As for Atlantic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-51 loss against Boynton Beach on the 30th.
