Basketball Game Preview: Jefferson Cougars vs. Briar Woods Falcons

The Jefferson Cougars will challenge the Briar Woods Falcons at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

Last Saturday, Jefferson ended up a good deal behind Martinsburg and lost 69-53. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked fifth).

Meanwhile, Briar Woods scored the most points they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell to Riverside 76-70. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (55), the Falcons still had to take the loss.

Briar Woods' defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Jefferson didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Briar Woods in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, but they still walked away with a 70-65 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
