Basketball Recap: Mercy Prep Academy Takes a Loss

Mercy Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were outmatched by Grayson Christian and fell 60-11. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Grayson Christian this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 43-10 last Friday.

Several Royals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Myra Nelsen, who posted two points. What's more, Nelsen also posted two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Emma Williams was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Mercy Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Leading Grayson Christian to victory were Jacey Doonan and Taetym Doonan. Jacey dropped a double-double with 28 points and ten boards, while Taetym shot 4-for-7 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine steals. Jacey's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Buck, who scored eight points.

Mercy Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Grayson Christian, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Mercy Prep Academy has already played their next match, a 29-28 defeat against St. Mary's on the 10th. As for Grayson Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-21 win against Excel Christian Academy on the 14th.
