High school basketball phenom Emoni Bates of Lincoln (Ypsilanti, Mich.) announced Monday he will be staying in-state, committing to Michigan State on ESPN's SportsCenter.

Bates also announced he would be attending Ypsi Prep Academy next season, a new prep program based out of his hometown.

The 6-foot-9 wing led Lincoln to a 19-3 record last season, averaging 32.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. He has surpassed 1,300 career points in just two seasons.

Bates is seen as a generational talent, appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated at just 15 years old after leading Lincoln to its first state title in program history as a freshman, averaging 28.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest.

The most incredible feat of his high school career so far was a 63-point, 21-rebound in a 108-102 double overtime win over Chelsea this past season.

Bates is the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Class of 2022 according to 247Sports and is projected to be the top pick in the NBA Draft whenever he declares.

Last season, Bates became the first sophomore to win Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors. He was also named a first team MaxPreps All-American after earning fourth team MaxPreps All-American honors as a freshman.
