Baseball Recap: Our Lady of Good Counsel Extends Road Winning Streak to Seven

Our Lady of Good Counsel took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against St. Mary's Ryken, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Knights on Thursday, sneaking past 5-3. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 11-4 victory the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Curtis Griggs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Our Lady of Good Counsel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Hassan, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Our Lady of Good Counsel's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's Ryken, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Our Lady of Good Counsel will face off against rival Paul VI at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3.5, the Panthers 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, St. Mary's Ryken is set to take on their familiar foe Archbishop Carroll at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for the Knights and 11 for the Lions.
