Parkland gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Lexington Yellowjackets by a score of 41-28. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Parkland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Vernon Champion, who rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown. Kiwion Covert was another key receiver, picking up 114 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Parkland didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Leandre Thomas and Xavier Hughes. Parkland got some further help from Scott (Tre) Walker Iii: he picked up two sacks and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
