Basketball Preview: Battle Mountain Longhorns vs. Incline Highlanders
Battle Mountain has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They and the Incline Highlanders will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
After soaring to a 41-point win in their last game, Battle Mountain came back down to earth on Saturday. They fell just short of Sierra Lutheran by a score of 33-30.
Despite their defeat, Battle Mountain saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Stevlana Martinez, who scored eight points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Jenna Chopp, who scored seven points along with three blocks.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Incline, who are still winless after their 15th matchup. They were outmatched by Yerington at home and fell 61-14. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Incline in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost four in a row.
Battle Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-12 record this season. As for Incline, their defeat was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15.
Everything went Battle Mountain's way against the Highlanders in their previous meeting back in January as the Longhorns made off with a 43-20 win. Will Battle Mountain repeat their success, or do the Highlanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
