Basketball Recap: Lydia Bleak's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Camp Verde over Scottsdale Preparatory Academy

Camp Verde lost against Scottsdale Preparatory Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Camp Verde Cowboys fell 49-39 to the Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans.

Camp Verde lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lydia Bleak, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Bleak is becoming a predictor of Camp Verde's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 7-2 (and 5-12 when she doesn't). Shanell Russell was another key player, putting up 13 points and four steals.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chloe Crandall led the charge by scoring eight points along with 15 boards and four steals. Crandall has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emily Stanek, who posted 19 points.

Camp Verde's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.
