Softball Recap: Spokane Takes a Loss

Spokane extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-9 in the process. They lost 13-7 to the Sparta Trojans. The Owls were not able to make up for their loss to the Trojans from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Spokane saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Callie Terrell, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another was Sarah Essick, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Sparta, they pushed their record up to 6-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Sparta's side, Addie Humble made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Humble was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Layne Forgey was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Sydney Willis was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Spokane didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-0 defeat against Fordland on the 18th. As for Sparta, they will be playing at home against Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
