Volleyball Recap: Utica Comes Up Short

Utica was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 2-0 to the Marian Mustangs. The Chieftains were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in October of 2020.

Leading Marian to victory were Allie Davison and Sarah Sawicki. Davison had 15 assists and seven aces, while Sawicki had two aces. Those two aces gave Sawicki a new career-high. Clare Reaume also deserves some recognition as she had her first digs of the season.

Utica's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13-1. As for Marian, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Utica and Marysville will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The match will give the Chieftains their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Marian, they will take on Notre Dame Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
