Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Leah Shappell and Mackenzie Collins Lead Leo to Victory

After losing to Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian the last time they met, Leo decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Lions took down the Braves 62-44 on Saturday. The Lions pushed the score to 51-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Braves cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading Leo to victory were Mackenzie Collins and Leah Shappell. Collins went 13-for-17 to rack up 32 points, while Shappell almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Collins a new career-high in shooting accuracy (76%). Stella Schelm also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Leo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Leo pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
