Volleyball Recap: Triton Trojans vs. Pioneer Panthers
Triton managed to slip by Pioneer the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans came up short against the Panthers on Tuesday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Trojans have suffered since September 9th.
While Triton was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-21, 25-21.
Avery Viers paced Triton's offense, picking up 13 kills. Viers got some help from Clara Doll and her 14 assists. Finally, Savannah Hawley kept Triton's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pioneer to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madyson Shaffer, who had 33 digs. Shaffer has been hot recently, having posted 14 or more digs the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lois Layer, who had 16 assists and nine digs.
Triton's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Pioneer, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-12.
Triton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against South Bend Career Academy on the 2nd. As for Pioneer, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against North Miami on the 2nd.
