Preview: Gloucester Fishermen vs. Revere Patriots
The Gloucester Fishermen will head out on the road to face off against the Revere Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gloucester is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Gloucester and Hanover squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly Gloucester had to settle for second. Gloucester suffered a tough 42-16 defeat at the hands of Hanover. While losing is never fun, Gloucester can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Hanover is ranked 13th).
Despite the defeat, Gloucester got a solid performance out of John Gucciardi, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 45 yards and a touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Revere can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent game on Saturday. They put the hurt on Beverly with a sharp 42-21 win. Revere didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.
Hanover's win bumped their season record to 9-0 while Gloucester's defeat dropped theirs to 5-4.
Gloucester took a serious blow against Revere in their previous meeting back in September of 2019, falling 38-8. Can Gloucester avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
