Stone Memorial is 0-6 against DeKalb County since March of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Stone Memorial Panthers face off against DeKalb County Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Stone Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Stone Memorial is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against White County on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Kenzie Jackson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Jackson wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Camdyn Holbrook, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, DeKalb County never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past Macon County 12-0. DeKalb County hasn't had any issues with Macon County recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Stone Memorial, DeKalb County also got a great game from a two-way player: Kora Kilgore. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Kilgore was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Rylee Wilbur and Zayleigh Bain did most of the damage at the plate: Wilbur went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Bain scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Bryna Pelham was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
DeKalb County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Stone Memorial fell to 5-1. As for DeKalb County, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Stone Memorial has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like DeKalb County struggles in that department as they've averaged .494. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stone Memorial suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to DeKalb County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Stone Memorial avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
