Charleston Catholic faced Winfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Irish put the hurt on the Generals with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Irish have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Charleston Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Winfield, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-6.

Looking ahead, Charleston Catholic will take on Gilmer County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Irish 3.9, the Titans 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Winfield, they will challenge Lincoln County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
