Basketball Game Preview: Desert Mountain Wolves vs. Notre Dame Prep Saints

Desert Mountain and Notre Dame Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Desert Mountain Wolves will challenge the Notre Dame Prep Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Desert Mountain is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Desert Mountain is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Horizon on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Desert Mountain came up short against Horizon, falling 60-38.

Despite the defeat, Desert Mountain saw an underclassman step up: freshman Caroline Workman dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Workman a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Liz Egan, who posted six points.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Salpointe Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Lancers are ranked first).

Notre Dame Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Desert Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Desert Mountain came up short against Notre Dame Prep in their previous meeting back in January, falling 47-40. Can Desert Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
