Basketball Recap: Plainfield South Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

While Plainfield South didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They enjoyed a cozy 53-37 victory over the Joliet Central Steelmen on Tuesday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Steelmen are ranked 589th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Joliet Central's loss came despite strong showings from James Lee and Malachi Boatright. Lee posted eight points and six rebounds, while Boatright earned 12 points. Another player making a difference was Luis Rivas, who put up five points.

The win was the third in a row for Plainfield South, bringing their record for this year to 8-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Joliet Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plainfield South will welcome Oswego East at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Joliet Central, they will host Oswego at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
