Football Recap: Pendleton Bulldogs vs. Woodruff Wolverines
Pendleton and Woodruff squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Pendleton had to settle for second. They fell 28-21 to the Woodruff Wolverines. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Wolverines recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Pendleton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bray Spear, who rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown. Those 110 rushing yards gave Spear a new career-high. Dashaun Jenkins also helped out as he racked up 103 rushing yards.
Even though they lost, Pendleton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Woodruff found their leader in sophomore Aiden Gibson, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Gibson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of TJ Morris, who threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
Pendleton's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Woodruff, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Pendleton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Woodruff, they will head out on the road to square off against Powdersville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Powdersville is coming into the matchup with five straight victories at home, so Woodruff will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
