Baseball Recap: Preston Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Preston had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lincoln Cougars a 4-0 shutout on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Cougars back in April, they had to take a 3-1 loss.

Not much got past Robbie Lowe, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Lincoln off the board. Lowe also tossed a walk, which is notable because Preston is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Preston's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Thaler, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Preston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April.

Preston's record is now 8-14. As for Lincoln, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-10 record this season.

Preston will be playing in front of their home fans against Grafton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights will need to watch out since the Bearcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Lincoln, they will head out on the road to square off against Braxton County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.77 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
