Basketball Game Preview: Celebration Storm vs. Mitchell Mustangs

The Celebration Storm will venture away from home to square off against the Mitchell Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Celebration will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Celebration can't be too worried about heading out to take on Mitchell: they just beat East Ridge at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Celebration skirted past East Ridge 52-50.

Emma Zukowski went supernova for Celebration, dropping a double-double on 34 points and ten boards. Those 34 points gave Zukowski a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sofia Ortiz, who posted four points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Celebration smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Mitchell's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Cypress Creek 51-46. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mustangs came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Coyotes are ranked 344th).

Celebration is also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Mitchell, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-6.
