Baseball Recap: Viewmont Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Viewmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bountiful RedHawks, sneaking past 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Beckham Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Cal Miller looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, James Peterson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bode Petersen, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Viewmont's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bountiful, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-11.

Viewmont will have a chance to go back-to-back against the RedHawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
