Football Recap: South Rowan Raiders vs. Union Academy Cardinals
South Rowan had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They managed a 21-17 win over the Union Academy Cardinals on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Raiders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Jayden Arthur went supernova for South Rowan, rushing for 143 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Marshal Faw did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 97 receiving yards.
South Rowan wouldn't let Union Academy keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Bryan Velasquez, Gavin Bisco, and Ashton Frampton picked up one apiece.
Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Parker Frashier, who threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 35 yards. Kayden Crooke was Frashier's top target, picking up 89 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Rowan will welcome South Stanly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Rowan focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday. As for Union Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Christ the King at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
